First and foremost, I am a husband and a father. My wife and I have been together since 2001 and married since 2007. She is my rock, and my tether to reality. She is a chiropractor, and an amazing singer. You can find her on her blog, Update My Status. In October of 2009 we added to a member to our little family with the birth of Bean. 6 weeks after he was born I began my 9 month stint as a stay-at-home-dad (SAHD), and to say he changed my life would be an understatement. The majority of my updates center around him.
I am an Apprentice of Divinity. When I became a SAHD, I also took the opportunity to go back to school to pursue a degree in Biblical and Theological Studies at Canadian Mennonite University. Christian theology is something I am quite passionate about, and while I don’t quite have a solid theology of my own, I’m often trying on new ideas to see how they fit. Once I receive my degree I’m hoping to make a career change from IT Guy to Pastor. Eventually I’ll get my Masters, and hopefully one day a PhD so I can teach.
I am an IT professional. No, not just a geek, a certified professional. I currently work at the same school I take classes at (bonus: free classes!) where I am part of a team of 3 that takes care of the computers, servers and network on campus. I am good at what I do, though with the introduction of Macs I have found a whole new realm of things to learn.
I am a bass player. I’ve been playing since 2004, and my current bass of choice is my Olympic White Fender ’62 re-issue Precision bass with tortoise shell pick guard strung with D’Addario Chrome Flats. I also play a Cort A4FL fretless and an Ibanez SR505. Currently I only play in church twice a month, but am hoping to find some other guys to jam with on a regular basis and maybe even play some local gigs.
I am a hunter. In 2009 I started bow hunting white-tail deer. I shoot a 2005 Bowtech Allegiance and wear ASAT camo and come fall it consumes my every thought. I also started goose hunting (with a shotgun), and am hoping to add rifle and black powder hunting seasons to my calendar this year. I have yet to get anything with my bow, but know my patience and persistence will pay off.
I am a vegetable gardener. We have a 4′x12′ raised bed in our backyard, and a 30′x60′ community garden plot a short drive away. Last year was our first year, and we are hoping to learn from our successes and failures and bring in a stellar crop this year. I’m also going to try my hand at growing a giant pumpkin for the 2010 season and am hoping to break 100lbs.
Twisted Christian (or Twistedxtian as the former has too many characters for most usernames) is a nickname given to me by a co-worker back when I used to be an industrial mechanic (millwright). I didn’t fit his stereotypical view of what a Christian was, what with my potty mouth, love of guns and knives, and theology that wasn’t of the mainstream variity, along with various other things he didn’t think were “normal.” So he called me Twisted Christian, a moniker I embraced, though when I entered the world of academia I found I wasn’t all that twisted at all, and that there were many people that thought like me. It was a comforting feeling, but I kept the nickname anyway.
You can also find me on twitter, @twistedxtian.
I also smile a lot.
