Music Etiquette While Driving

Summertime is a time of folks driving around with windows down and music blaring.

It is something that I hear folks regularly complain about on Twitter, particularly my friend @happy_mischu. ;) (then again her and i often commiserate about how we are turning into old people sitting on our porch yelling at the kids) The blaring bass of cars drives her nuts, and I totally understand.

This is why, when I pull up to a stop light, I turn my music down. I like to drive with my windows rolled down, and having power windows allows me to roll down those on the passenger side and in the back, which I do. I also like to drive with my music blasting. But this doesn’t mean everyone else should be subjected to it.

So as I pull up to a stop light I glance around to see if others are sitting there with their windows open, if so, I turn down my tunes. I’m also conscious of cars pulling up alongside me and adjust the volume accordingly. Yes, I still do this even if the car next to me is lacking in consideration and has windows down and music blasting. Lead by example right?

It isn’t something anyone would pick up on, which is kind of the point. I’m not looking for appreciation or thanks from those around me, I just wish others would do the same.

This is my little public service announcement. Please don’t be one of those inconsiderate people, turn down your music (or roll up your windows) when sitting next to another car with their windows down. They shouldn’t be subjected to your taste in music, nor you to theirs.

I'm the same way with this. When I was younger and I had the nice huge loud speakers in the back of my car (which have since been replaced some smaller but equally loud children) I would always turn my music down when I was at a stop light or going through a residential area. We have cars that come through our neighborhood at 1 and 2am rattling the house! So I'm one of those that love loud and rich music, but I love “noise” etiquette even more.

Well seeing as whenever I'm in the Van we're listening to cartoon songs. So when I pull up to a light, I like to blare Yo Gabba Gabba.

I love my loud music, but there has to be a balance. It's just a little respect, but it can go a long way.
