This is why people become parents

Dear Bean,

It’s been 2 weeks since I have gone back to work full-time and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss you during the day. But you know what makes it all worth it? Coming home to see you. When I walk in the door and you see me standing there I get the worlds biggest smile from you. Your entire face lights up and now that you can crawl you make a bee line for me. It melts my heart. I stand there and watch you crawl towards me with this huge smile and I understand why people become parents. It’s like one of those cheesy effects in the movies where the screen goes fuzzy around the edges and all that is clear are the people in the middle. That’s what it feels like, as though nothing else in the world matters but that smile on your face and that unconditional love. These moments will be with me forever, and make me so happy that I am your dad.

Love,

Dad

That’s my favorite part of being a dad. When I come home, my 2 youngest act as though they haven’t seen me in years.

Definitely the best part of every day for me.

Kids are great. They know just how to make us feel special.

It is such an amazing feeling. I love it.

Couldn’t agree more. I like the way you describe the feeling as a cinematic vignette. It’s hard to explain those feelings to my single friends. I think you just have to be a parent to understand.

I totally agree. Before becoming one I never understood a lot of the feelings my parent friends would try to explain to me. Now I get it.
