Runner-in-Training

runningI’ve recently attempted to take up running. My wife has been working her way through the C25K program, so I figured I’d join her. Why? Well, because I’m the kind of guy who can’t stand when his wife is better at him than something, especially something physical. So I took it up so that I could get better than her, once again asserting my authority as “Man of the House” and putting her back in her place.

LOL

Could you imagine? Actually, I can, because there are guys out there that actually think like that. Me? I took up running because I love spending time with my wife and exercising with her is a lot of fun.

So we’ve been occasionally running together. This can only happen when we have visitors since we can’t really leave the kids at home (How do other couples with kids run together, or do they just not?). So we’ve gone out a few times in thas couple of weeks and it’s been a blast. Mama Bean is on week 6 or 7 of the C25K program, but I’ve been able to jump in fairly well. All my cycling is definitely making the transition a little easier. (Well, not a transition since I’m not stopping cycling.)

I’m hoping adding running to my fitness regime will help me on my #DadFit path as I slowly work toward getting fit and shedding unwanted fat.

My Monday morning weigh-in put me at 192.8lbs (down from 236.4 in Jan), with 17% body fat (BF). This gives me a BMI of 26.4, which is still in the “high” range. To drop into the normal range I’d need to get down to 180, something I can’t really see happening so I’m not really stressing about my BMI. As I said in my last #DadFit post though, I do want to get my BF under 10% and have a sweet looking 6-pack (because in the end, while we like to talk about feeling good, it’s really all about looking good. when you look good, you feel good by extension. Right? lol)

My goal for the month of July is to drop to 15% BF. I’m still not really sure how to achieve this, but running and cycling and weight lifting should help.

I’m loving these changes I’m making in my life and I’m happy to be able to do some of them with my wife. We’re hoping to enter a 5km race in September which is what we’re training for.

How is #DadFit going for the rest of you?
